Dr. Edward Cates
BS, Duke University

Dr. Cates has been a dedicated member of Pioneer Family Medical since 2009, bringing a thoughtful and empowering approach to patient care. With a special focus on pediatric medicine, chronic disease management, and lifestyle modification, he is passionate about guiding patients of all ages toward healthier lives. Dr. Cates believes that education is a cornerstone of wellness, and he works closely with each patient to help them take an active role in their own health journey.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Cates is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys coaching youth soccer, cooking with his family, skiing, backpacking, and embracing any opportunity for adventure in the great outdoors.

Dr. Lucinda Grande

Dr. Grande has been a member of the Pioneer Family since 2011. She has brought a thoughtful, innovative approach to patient care, combining her dual board certifications in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Known for her creative problem-solving and dedication to improving community health, Dr. Grande has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the 2023 SIIA EXCEL Award for “Bending the Curve,” and both the Grassroots Advocacy Award and Health Care Champions Award for Innovative Community Service in 2019.
Deeply committed to both local and global health initiatives, Dr. Grande balances her professional life with personal passions that include classical music, world travel, and quality time with her husband, their two beloved basset hounds, and their son, who currently resides in Thailand.
Dr. Cris Johnson

Dr. Cris Johnson is a founding member of the Pioneer Family. He has been proudly serving patients and their families since the clinic's inception. With a deep commitment to compassionate, relationship-centered care, Dr. Johnson values the trust built through long-term connections with individuals across all stages of life. His medical philosophy is grounded in the belief that strong relationships form the foundation of excellent family medicine.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending quality time with his own family and their beloved dog. He’s an avid outdoorsman who finds balance through hiking, golfing, and exploring nature.
